The end of my last life!
I sat pondering the nature of my situation, the war raging on around me.
My best friend Toju lay lifeless, an axe wound to his skull, and in the lake shallows before me several armour laden invaders sunken to the clear and chilly depths.
A kind of emptiness came over me, a sense of freedom. If this was going to be my last day in this life, should i get up and keep fighting..die a glorious death.
Or just stay here, cradling Toju's limp form, till some iron clad lunatick sent me on my way.
I was exhausted anyway, my sword was rubbish, heavy and not well balanced.. like me.
The front of my tunic was drenched in blood, this was my best tunic. My wife had made it for our wedding and i only wore it on special occasions or for luck.
Memories of her face, rolling tears, dripping onto her pale blue blouse, making little wet spots on her breasts.
I would give anything to see her right now...be home in our cottage, feet up by the fire.
I stared out across the lake, there were still a few men standing, fighting near the oak trees, a few of them i recognized from nearby villages, good men, farmers, fathers.
As i looked, i noticed a glow, it was white or gold..it got brighter, coming across the lake towards me.
I wiped the sweat from my eyes to see better.
It was a man, walking on the lake toward me.
As he got closer, i suddenly snapped out of my vague mental imaginings and took clear focus on him.
He was standing right at the waters edge before me now, brilliant like the sun.
The fighters kept fighting, no one else seemed to notice him.
He had long flowing hair like a woman, and all his teeth.
I thought to myself, 'this is no countryman of mine.'
He was dressed in a long kimono robe, the kind fancy city men wore to bed.
In his one hand he carried a kind of satchel, it too all glowing in light.
My mind was reeling, was this some kind of angel, come to take my friend Toju.
He held out his hand to me, and without hesitation i found myself reaching up, my golden hand taking his.
And as he pulled me to my feet, i looked back at my lifeless body, Toju laying in my lap, a huge javelin spear protruding from my chest, its tip burried in the earth in front of my feet.
"Someone has speared me from behind" i thought quietly to myself, "fucking cowards".
As i felt myself drawn out of my body, the world around me began to fade and as we floated up over the battleground, my last sight of the world i knew was the ricefields, and i laughed to myself at all the long years my 75 year old body had slaved away in them... pale blue wedding dress
As my world completely disappeared, the surroundings changed to unfamiliar scapes, an endless and glowing city stretched out before me, it did actually seem somehow very familiar, in a unfamiliar or unremembered way...my mind reeling for references...
The angel spoke to me, " You have 17 lives left in the 3rd dimension...would you like to get right into it, or would you like a rest here before going on?"
I thought about what he was saying.
17 lives left of what, i wondered...
"75 years is quite a load to process for most." He said.
"I usually recommend a break, downtime u know!"..." If you don't theres also a small chance of cross manifestation in the next body form."
I felt like i had heard this all before, and this city we were flying over was now setting off memory after memory...
"Is cross manifestation bad?" I asked him... Suddenly realizing i had loads of questions.
"Deja vu at the least" he said, "major birth defects in the vessel or neurology at the severe end"...he continued...
I remembered the wine maker in our village, born without speech or hearing...
"I will rest" i said certainly.
I loved a great adventure as much as the next traveller, but i wasnt really one to play the major parts in teaching others about Self love.
We flew down and into a huge hall, inside countles beings lined up at cubicles. This was going to take ages...
I took my place at the back of the cue. My angel handed me the small satchel, "inside are the details of your next incarnation, once your thru customs and settled into your room, you can open it."
As he flew off, my mind wandered back to my last life, "Was Toju here someplace?" I thought to myself...
